Can you share your background and what motivated/inspired you to join the Leafguard team?

I come from the production side of the business; I previously was an installer before. I’m married with two kids and a dog. What really drew me to Leafguard was its strong reputation for quality and its commitment to people, whether it be on the customer side or employee side. I also really saw an opportunity to grow within the business.

When you first heard about the role, was there anything that stood out about Leafguard that made you think it would be a good fit for you?

Everyone I’ve talked to or worked with has always been great, both in attitude and mindset. The way we treat people is what truly drew me here. With customers, we offer a lifetime warranty and consistently return to the property to take care of them. On the employee side, we ensure that everyone has the necessary resources to perform their jobs and excel to the best of their abilities.

How would you explain to your friends and family what working here is like?

It’s fast-paced, very team-oriented, and deeply rewarding. No two days are the same, which keeps things exciting and you motivated. I changed roles not too long ago, switching from Production Manager to Regional Production Manager. This came with challenges such as working with other branches, assisting them, and coaching and developing staff. I had to step outside my comfort zone; my previous role was already somewhat secure, so I had to adapt to a brand new position. However, always having the resources to excel and do my best was crucial.  

Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.

Any situation that involves overcoming challenges I’ve faced, such as implementing a new workflow or enhancing training. Additionally, improving communication by closing the gap between sales and production emphasizes the importance of teamwork. 

Specifically, there was a situation where I took a service call to assist my crew and ended up saving a customer’s life. He was peeking at the work through a second-story window when he fell and got caught in his curtains. My first response was to try to catch him and save him. I caught him by his torso and managed to prevent a very serious fall. So that was definitely a memorable experience! 

What are some important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

People are truly the biggest key to success. Teamwork is crucial in our work. I have also learned that leadership is not just about being the boss or giving orders, but rather about supporting the teams and helping to eliminate roadblocks or issues they face, enabling them to succeed. Asking questions like, “What issues are you having?” “What can I assist you with?” and “What can I help you do better for yourself?” is important. Keeping clear communication open with them, listening, and ensuring they know they have someone to approach is essential. Often, it’s the people doing the work who come up with the best ideas. Being an ear for them or a shoulder they can lean on as a resource has been the biggest lesson for me. 

Any advice for colleagues or individuals aspiring to advance their careers within the organization?

Take initiative and remain dependable at all times. Understand the reasons behind certain decisions and be receptive to feedback. If you are eager to assist, help, and be a resource for others, LeafGuard is an excellent company for that. They will always reward your actions and efforts.
